The map most played by high level players is ctf2 which was a good map by mistake. Hope u will do so. The most important and hard task with being an official mapper is creating maps that have a very nice gameplay.
Thanks for sharing that! The address of the server in Germany is timakro. With recent versions of DDNet client you can play demo files directly by teeworkds them into the client instead of having to put the demo file into the demo directory and navigating to it in the client.

You need more experience when it comes to gameplay and creating competitive maps and for this, I think, at least a certain amount of skill is necessary in teeworlds, so you can move fast. Sure i made a ctf map once ago i think it matches in some ways some of these points. Also, yes, I did play it, even with friends. But I would suggest, not having such open spaces. It is only visible to you.
